How Much Money Do YouTubers Actually Make? Honest Truth Behind Making Money on YouTube

11:04 PM

How much money do YouTubers actually make? Well you'll be surprised that it's not as much as you think. Adsense is one of the revenue streams that YouTubers can make money off of.

It's essentially all the annoying advertisements that you see when you watch YouTube videos nowadays. It's a complicated algorithm that is at play but it is based off of a 1000 per advertisement impressions will give you a certain dollar amount. For example if a video gets 50,000 views with all 50,000 views being monetized then it will be the cost-per-impression as noted above (i.e. CPM). I talk about this in my video in more depth.

The thing is, with built-in browser programs which block these advertisements tied in with a low CPM, you can't really make a living off of ads alone until you reach a threshold of I'd say at least 400,000-500,000 views on a monthly basis.
People often get confused who know nothing about YouTube. Subscribers although can be a factor when it comes to suggesting a fan base and potential views, subscribers don't indicate the dollar amount made on a monthly basis. It's more about monthly views. A person can have 0 subscribers, suddenly have a monetized viral video; can still make thousands of dollars because it's on VIEWS
Since Adsense alone is not a viable income alone especially when you start out, there needs to be other streams [insert product placements, brand deals, merchandise, affiliate links, etc]. Other products include selling some sort of digital product or stand-alone item where the creator makes direct income from the audience whether that's an e-book or on-line courses or any of those sorts.
The reality is, unless you're big 'YouTube Star' that is pulling in millions of views on a monthly basis, it's pretty tough to make a luxurious full-time living off of YouTube. Can you make a decent living somewhat close to a minimum wage job whose worked 40 hours a week, of course. It'll take time, effort and commitment. From my own experience, making any sort of revenue from doing the things I love, is amazing, and even though it isn't much - it just feels so much more empowering and earned.
What does bug and irk me is that you have these multi channel networks or companies that act as a 'umbrella' company that get other YouTube channels to sign with them. New YouTubers often think they can 'help' you grow your channel and so forth; but the reality is you can do a lot of what they claim by yourself through dedicated and thorough research. In the end they are businesses - they need profit. So they take a a chunk of you're already hard earned YouTube revenue and split whatever is left with you. They don't pay you. You signed the contract so..you pay them so that they can pay you. Sounds complicated I know. I wouldn't ever think twice about these multi channel networks until you reach a certain comfortable threshold of a solid YouTube channel and maybe a talk with your personal attorney?

In the end, money can be made on YouTube but like they say...

''...money is the root of all evil.''
